Davina Michelle posted the following in the description of this song published on YouTube on the 18th of May, 2021, "I had the honor of writing and performing 'Sweet Water' for the Eurovision Song Contest." She performed the song during the intermission of the first semifinal of the contest in Rotterdam on that day. Actress Thekla Reuten and a group of dancers backed her up on stage. The act, called "The Power Of Water", was dedicated to the Delta Works company that protects The Netherlands against flooding.

"Water connects, is resilient and is an inseparable part of the Netherlands," said Davina Michelle about the background of this track. "Together with Eurovision we have worked on a unique act in which these characteristics are central. I wrote the song 'Sweet Water', in which water is used as a metaphor for something that connects people in the world. We are all different and live in different environments, but we all need water and it brings us all together."
