"The Better Part Of Bravery" lyrics

Once, when I was younger
I thought I saw something linger
Bold white spark, some bright kicking thing
Oh, what dark reward did that vision bring

But I was young and I was headstrong
I thought life just stayed overlong
Heave a breath caught deep in my lungs
Oh, what daydream hours did I live among

And in the twilit light
When the stars were the only light
Turned to look again and it had gone
Leaving me to ponder on
The better part of bravery
Is in the letting go
Is in the letting go

So I went on, so I rambled
Through the day, through each revel
'Til it became a tale I told myself
Within each waking hour did I guard it well

And for all my holding on
I could not hold for long
When I looked again, it had flown
If only I'd sooner known
The better part of bravery
Is in the letting go
Is in the letting go

Now I am old, full of wonderings
I will not sate this quiet hungering
The things we catch, the things best left alone
And in that gloaming hour, I will homeward go

And for all my holding on
I could not hold for long
'Cause I am slipping through my fingers like a flame
The only truth that can remain
The better part of bravery
Is in the letting go
The better part of bravery
Is in the letting go
Is in the letting go
Is in the letting go
Is in the letting go
