"Dance The Night" is the lead single for the soundtrack to the film "Barbie" (2023) where Dua Lipa plays a role of Mermaid Barbie. The song was released on the 25th of May, 2023. Greta Gerwig, the film's director, makes a cameo appearance in the music video for this track.

Talking in an interview with Dazed magazine, Dua Lipa admitted that Greta Gerwig's involvement in the film prompted her to take part in it. Lipa told about Gerwig's films, "[They] never really feel like the male gaze. They have very interesting female protagonists." Lipa briefly said about the film, "Barbie, the doll, has this idea of what perfection should be. The film–and there's a lot of diversity in the cast–is touching exactly on the buttons that maybe it presses, and shows a different story."

Dua Lipa and Caroline Ailin wrote this song with its producers Andrew Wyatt and Mark Ronson. Lipa announced its release on Instagram on the 22nd of May, 2023: she posted a short video where she recreated a film's scene with Margot Robbie's arched foot from the second "Barbie" teaser trailer.
