"Are You Even Real?" lyrics

"Are You Even Real?"

There's no five years
There's no ten years
Only this
Queen of, queen of, queen of queens

There's no knife
'Cause there's no tension
Only this
Lucid dream of, dream of dreams

All I can do is trust in her
Late nights I can see the lust in her
Acid rain is a first for her
Skies open up, share a cup with her

Cracking seals, guilty no appeal
Trip down the hill, strawberry fields
Are you even real?
She said, "Tell me how you feel"
Are you even real?
Are you even real?

Well maybe I should study my reflection
Best to know
How I seem, I seem, I seem

I spend the day
Dreaming of connection
Just to feel
How you feel, you feel, you feel

All I can do is trust in her
Late nights I can see the lust in her
Acid rain is a first for her
Skies open up, share a cup with her

Cracking seals, guilty no appeal
Trip down the hill, strawberry fields
Are you even real?
She said, "Tell me how you feel"
Are you even real?
Are you even real?

Dream of connection
Tell me how you feel
Tell me how you feel
Are you even real?
Are you even real?

Then she ran
Then she ran
Then she ran her hands through my imagination
Then she ran
Then she ran
Then she ran her hands through my imagination

(Are you, are you real?)

Dream of connection
Tell me how you feel
Tell me how you feel
(Are you even real?)
Are you even real?

"Are You Even Real?" was previewed by James Blake with an audio snippet on Twitter on the 5th of July 2020. The song was released on the 9th of July 2020.
James Blake, who produced this song, co-wrote it with Starrah and Ali Tamposi. Speaking with Zane Lowe on Apple Music, Blake told about writing with Starrah, "I was just playing her music, just ambient piano loops and beats and things that I had made. A lot of it, she seemed to engage with and start writing to, which is amazing because I’m a big fan of her. We just kind of hit it off and made a lot of stuff." And he added about Tamposi, "Ali Tamposi helped write parts of the song too. There was quite a bit of collaboration on this song writing-wise, which was just really great for me. I love those two."
After the initial writing sessions, this song was completed at Electric Lady Studios in New York, Pulse Studios and Conway in Los Angeles, and at Blake's home studio in LA. Apple Music previewed a clip of "Are You Even Real?" in a video of the "Behind the Mac" campaign. In the video, Blake is using new Logic Pro X programme to edit the song on his MacBook at home.
