"Bing Chilling" originated from a video John Cena published on his Weibo account on the 10th of May, 2021, where he was talking in Chinese about his love to ice cream and to the "Fast & Furious 9" film. The video was his attempt to soften the effect of his previous controversial remark that Taiwan was "a country" during the film's promotional tour. He apologized later but his mistake still enraged many Chinese.
The title of the song is how the Chinese translation of the words "ice cream" (冰淇淋) would sound when pronounced in Mandarin.
Lots of YouTube parodies and remixes were made to John Cena's Weibo video in 2021 making it an Internet meme, with another surge in popularity on TikTok in November of 2022.
