"Common Ground" lyrics

This wicked world is spinning round in such a sorry state
I find myself believing now that the hour is getting late
These rich, rich men are pulling strings, dividing us in two
At times like this there's just one thing I think we need to learn to do

One simple decision can turn this thing around
Learn to love our neighbors, boys, and look for common ground
Common ground, common ground

You've heard it said a hundred times, united we are strong
But they got us all so sideways we don't even try to get along
We fuss and fight, both left and right, independents too
At times like this there's just one thing I think we need to learn to do

One simple solution can turn this thing around
Love our neighbors, love ourselves, and look for common ground
Common ground, common ground

Hey, when we're not filling prisons, we're busy building walls
Spirit tries to speak to us, but we don't hear her call
And these peaceful demonstrations we swear we all desire
There's no negotiating with lock and load and fire
'Cause this side will not give an inch and that side won't back down
Go fire your politicians, boys; find some common ground
Common ground, common ground
Common ground

Hey, this wicked world's still spinning round in such a sorry state
I find myself believing now that the hour is way too late
These rich old men so cavalierly threaten deadly nukes
At times like this there's just one thing I think we need to learn to use

Some simple ancient wisdom can turn this thing around
Love God and love your neighbors, boys, and look for common ground
Hey, Love God and love our neighbors, boys; look for common ground
Common ground, common ground
Common ground
Common ground, common ground
Common ground
