Many years ago in a land so sacred
Founding patriarchs Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob
Famine forced the 12 tribes to migrate to Egypt
Unequipped descendant's became slaves quick
After a few centuries, Moses led his people
From bondage to freedom back to Israel eventually
40 years in the desert, received the Torah
Enchanted, 5 books and the 10 commandments
Conquered the land under Joshua's command
Saul and King David working hand in hand
Yerushalayim named the capital, this is instrumental
David's son Solomon built the holy temple
For 200 years it developed and flourished
Observance by the prophets with wisdom well nourished
Over run by Assyrians, who threatened their lives
The people dispersed to 10 lost tribes
Babylonians conquered and destroyed the temple
Jewish people exiled no where to be sent to
Persian conquest led to Jewish self rule
They rebuilt the temple and brought back the jewel
For the next four centuries things were cool
Till suppressed measures were imposed by some Syrian fools
Revolt broke out from the Maccabee lead
80 years of Jewish kings, Hasmonean dynasty
60 B.C.E. in the countries home
Slowly became weakened and dominated by Rome
They burnt the second temple down to the ground
Masada's last stand for freedom one day to be found
Under Roman rule Jewish law was established
Codified in the Mishnah, elaborated in the Talmud
Attempt to regain Jewish national sovereignty
The Bar Kokhba Revolt 132 C.E.
Stamped out and defeated by Roman demeanor
Who renamed the country and called it Palestina
So many landscapes so many frames
With every current leader the country's name changed
From the 7th century on the country was ruled
By Arabs, Seljuks, Crusaders and Mamluks
Ottoman Turks, then the British prevail
Till 1948, the birth of Israel
