This song is featured on the soundtrack to the film "The Peanuts Movie" (2015). The song was released by Epic Records as a promotional single from the soundtrack on the 13th of October 2015.

Steve Martino, director of the film, requested a song for the soundtrack from Meghan Trainor, and she later explained to People magazine, "They wanted a song about confidence and knew I was good at writing those. I feel better when I'm onstage dancing and having fun, so I wrote about that!"

Meghan Trainor told Entertainment Weekly magazine about her feelings during making this track, "I was so nervous. I wanted to make sure I got it exactly what they wanted."

Meghan Trainor thought that Peanuts was a cartoon, not a comic strip. She haven't seen any of Peanuts movie specials.

"Better When I'm Dancin'" is not in the usual Meghan Trainor's doo-wop musical style, but a soca song with traces of house music. Critics described it as "breezy and harmless".

The music video for this track features Meghan Trainor with Snoopy, Woodstock, Charlie Brown, and other characters from Peanuts.

The song was performed by Meghan Trainor on the Dancing with the Stars season 21 finale on the 24th of November 2015.
