"Carry You" lyrics

"Carry You"
(from "Upright" soundtrack)

If they would let me trade
I'd give a year for half a day just
Curled up on the sofa with you
We'd wander down to Cottesloe eat fish and chips in the final glow
I'd hold my breath for I forgive you

Sometimes I feel you with me in the dark
And your face is in the faces of the strangers walking by me in the park

And reflected in your eyes
Is all my love and all my lies
Is all my promise and my pride
Is all my fear and all my fight
Is all my dread and my denial

And though we cannot be together I know
That I will carry you wherever I go
I will carry you
Lord knows
I will carry you
I will carry you

And reflected in your eyes
Is all my love and all my lies
Is all my promise and my pride
Is all my fear and all my fight
Is all my dread and my denial

And though we cannot be together I know
That I will carry you wherever I go
I will carry you
Lord knows
I will carry you
I will carry you
I will carry you

"Carry You" was premiered on January 23, 2020, accompanied by a music video. The visuals were directed by Josef Gatti.
Tim Minchin, co-writer of "Upright", posted the following message on Facebook about this song on 01/24/2020, "It is the version from the credits of the final episode of UPRIGHT, performed by the completely frickin wonderful Missy Higgins. Man, I love her voice. (Actually, I love her in general). It's produced by Sarah and Richie Belkner."
Missy Higgins explained, "When [Minchin] played me 'Carry You' on the piano I instantly felt how beautiful and universal it was and how I might make it my own. When I sang it in the studio, I felt the ache of regret and the longing for connection through the lyrics, which is something any of us can relate to I think."
