In the film, the duo Fire Saga (Lars and Sigrit) sings this song during its semifinal performance at Eurovision. Molly Sandén provided the singing voice for the character of Rachel McAdams.

Savan Kotecha, executive producer of the film's soundtrack, told Vulture how he wrote "Double Trouble" with his friend Arnþór Birgisson, "I told Arnþór, 'Let's try to make it feel like an Icelandic folk song in the start and then we'll do a big chorus melody.' We wanted to make sure it felt like a big melody and with lyrics that almost felt they were Google-translated from another language back to English."
