"Hank" lyrics

"Hank"

I grew up on the back of a Piedmont pine stand, strumming on guitar strings
Till one day I figured that I might ought to figure out how to play and sing
I strummed three-chord songs all night long on the back of a farm pond bank
I was raised on the good words of Waylon and brought up on Hank

Them old songs about trotting lines and coal mines, and chewing on the hickory twig
In this world that I despise, I'm just trying to live life the same way that my granddad did
My songs might be missing two old boys kissing, but they ain't going to miss that soul
Of a young man living in a world that's forgetting all the things that the good Lord told

But on the dark side of the mountain, there's a little place I go and hide
Where you run two hours down a two-lane road
You drop her down in four-wheel drive
When I'm deep down in that valley
This old world, it spins so slow
Like I can almost hear a voice
Saying, "Son, the Lord's about to call some folks on home"

Well, we're all just some big bags of bones that are glued to our phones and shit that's wrecking our health
In this age of false idols, there's pages of Bibles collecting dust on a shelf
When you get that time machine going, brother, please sign me up, cuz I want off this ride that I'm on
Where we all get dumber by the minute and weaker by the day, with many more days left to come
