This song was used as the musical theme for the comic-book movie "Flash Gordon" (1980). The actor Brian Blessed can be heard in the song with the line "Gordon's alive!" Queen wrote the entire soundtrack to the film.
Drummer Roger Taylor explained to Mojo magazine in October 2008, "We wanted to write the first rock-'n'-roll soundtrack to a non-music film. At the time, rock 'n' roll was not used in movies unless they were specifically about music."
The 2007 comedy "Blades of Glory" features this song as the basis for the main characters' final routine.
