Speaking about the recording process of "The Royal Guard", Sabaton's Pär Sundström and Joakim Brodén explained in March 2021, "It's a bit of a different tune, slower, more epic but it suits the theme. It's a tricky thing: trying to honour royal guards with such a rich history that spans over five hundred years, to get it all, to squeeze that into one song considering all the military engagements they've been through all these years."

The release of this song on silver vinyl, only 500 copies and available only in Sweden, contained real gun powder added to the vinyl.
