"Barbie Girl" is the third single from Aqua's debut studio album, "Aquarium". The song was premiered on May 14, 1997, accompanied by the music video directed by Peder Pedersen and Peter Stenbæk.

Lene Nystrøm told about how the idea of this song came up, "Rene came up with the original lyric 'Come on Barbie. Let's go party!' and we wanted to put voices to the dolls and imagine what they would say to each other." The song's music video features Lene Nystrøm as Barbie and René Dif as Ken.

"Barbie Girl" received the "Danish Hit Of The Year" reward at the Danish Music Awards in 1998. The song reached number two in Denmark and peaked at number seven on the US Billboard Hot 100.

Aqua performed this song as part of a medley of their singles (with Safri Duo) as the interval act during the Eurovision Song Contest 2001.
