"Wanted Dead Or Alive" lyrics

"Wanted Dead Or Alive"

It's all the same, only the names will change
Every day it seems we're wasting away
Another place where the faces are so cold
I'd drive all night just to get back home

I'm a cowboy
On a steel horse I ride
I'm wanted dead or alive
Wanted dead or alive

Sometimes I sleep, sometimes it's not for days
The people I meet always go their separate ways
Sometimes you tell the day by the bottle that you drink
And times when you're alone, well, all you do is think

I'm a cowboy
On a steel horse I ride
I'm wanted (Wanted) dead or alive
Wanted (Wanted) dead or alive

Oh, and I ride

Ooh, I'm a cowboy
On a steel horse I ride
I'm wanted (Wanted) dead or alive

But I walk these streets, a loaded six-string on my back
I play for keeps 'cause I might not make it back
I've been everywhere, (Oh yeah) still I'm standing tall
I've seen a million faces and I've rocked them all

'Cause I'm a cowboy
On a steel horse, I ride
I'm wanted (Wanted) dead or alive
And I'm a cowboy
I got the night on my side
And I'm wanted (Wanted) dead or alive

And I ride (And I ride), dead or alive
I still drive (Still drive), dead or alive
Dead or alive
Dead or alive
Dead or alive
Dead or alive

"Wanted Dead Or Alive" could also be the name of the album. The band was even going to make the album's cover picture in the Western style, but then decided that it would be too serious. The cover of the single, though, was made in that style.
Jon Bon Jovi said that this song was inspired by Bob Seger's "Turn the Page". Bon Jovi listened to that song while travelling on a tour bus in 1985. Consequently this song tells a story of a rock singer constantly on a road as if he is a cowboy.
When Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora performed this song only on acoustic guitars at the MTV Video Music Awards in 1989, it inspired the channel to launch the Unplugged series of performances.
The producers of the film "Young Guns II" (1990) wanted to use this song in the film, but its lyrics were not quite fitting. So, Jon Bon Jovi went to the set of the film and played several other songs to them, one being "Blaze Of Glory" which was eventually approved for the film.
