"Love Me Tender" lyrics

"Love Me Tender"
(from "Elvis (NBC TV Special)" soundtrack)

Love me tender,
love me sweet,
never let me go.
You have made my life complete,
and I love you so.

Love me tender,
love me true,
all my dreams fulfilled.
For my darlin' I love you,
and I always will.

Love me tender,
love me long,
take me to your heart.
For it's there that I belong,
and we'll never part.

Love me tender,
love me dear,
tell me you are mine.
I'll be yours through all the years,
till the end of time.

(When at last my dreams come true
Darling this I know
Happiness will follow you
Everywhere you go).

This song was featured in the film "Love Me Tender" (1956), where Elvis Presley had his acting debut.
The song was based on a Civil War ballad called "Aura Lee".
Elvis Presley co-wrote very few of the songs he recorded, but his publishing deal required songwriters to concede 50% of the credit if they wanted him to record a song. Ken Darby, a writer of these lyrics, credited his wife as co-songwriter along with Presley "because she didn't write it either", as he said.
This track was co-produced by Elvis Presley despite of him not be mentioned as a producer. He made her own arrangements for most of the songs he recorded.
Elvis Presley performed "Love Me Tender" on The Ed Sullivan Show on the 9th of September 1956, before the single's release. On the following day, RCA received 1 million advance orders, making it a gold record before it was even released.
The original title of the film was "The Reno Brothers" but 20th Century Fox re-titled it "Love Me Tender" because of the song's popularity.
