This song turned out to be the last one Jimi Hendrix performed live. It was at a concert in Germany on the 16th of September 1970, 12 days before his death.
When this track was released as a single in the UK in 1970, a week after Hendrix died, it became his only number-one hit in that country.
The Music Radar website readers voted that this song had the best guitar riff in rock'n'roll history. The website explained, "From its wah-wah into the rhythm parts and the astonishing solo, this is still regarded by many as the high watermark of electric-guitar expression."
