"Let Me Down Slowly" was initially released as a solo version in 2018. The song had been presented to Atlantic Records before the company signed Alec Benjamin.

Alessia Cara joined Alec Benjamin in 2019 to make a duet version of this track. Benjamin told Billboard, "She added a lot of really cool harmonies, and her perspective brought new meaning to the song." The music video for this version was published on the 6th of February 2019.
