The singer wrote this song when she was recovering after break-up with a guy. She told Zane Lowe during Beats1 show, "There's a stage [...] where you need to kind of grieve whatever you lost or whatever's going on and you have to just go through the period where you feel miserable and that's what this song is about."

This song was released on Beats1 on the 13th of November 2018, the third anniversary of Alessia Cara's debut album, "Know-It-All".

Alessia Cara explained the meaning of this song in a video posted on Twitter, "It's about capturing that in-between phase, and reminding myself that things do get better but it's okay to just say 'You know what? Not today. Today I need to be in bed, I need to be sad, and just throw myself a pity party.'"
