"Valerie" lyrics
"Valerie"
Well sometimes I go out by myself
And I look across the water
And I think of all the things, what you're doing
And in my head I paint a picture
'Cause since I've come on home
Well my body's been a mess
And I've missed your ginger hair
And the way you like to dress
Won't you come on over
Stop making a fool out of me
Why don't you come on over, Valerie?
Valerie
Valerie
Valerie
Did you have to go to jail
Put your house on up for sale, did you get a good lawyer?
I hope you didn't catch a tan
I hope you'll find the right man who'll fix it for ya
Are you shopping anywhere
Changed the color of your hair, are you busy?
And did you have to pay that fine
That you were dodging all the time, are you still dizzy?
Since I've come on home
Well my body's been a mess
And I've missed your ginger hair
And the way you like to dress
Won't you come on over?
Stop making a fool out of me
Why don't you come on over, Valerie?
Valerie
Valerie
Valerie
Well sometimes I go out by myself
And I look across the water
And I think of all the things, what you're doing
And in my head I paint a picture
Since I've come on home
Well my body's been a mess
And I've missed your ginger hair
And the way you like to dress
Won't you come on over?
Stop making a fool out of me
Why don't you come on over, Valerie?
Valerie
Valerie
Valerie
Valerie
Valerie
Valerie
Valerie
Valerie
Why don't you come on over, Valerie?

This song was originally recorded by
The Zutons for their album "Tired Of Hanging Around" (2006).
When producer Mark Ronson prepared to record his cover album "Version" (2007) he wanted to re-work some guitar songs in the soul style of '60s & '70s. He asked Amy Winehouse, with whom he worked on her "Back To Black" album, about a song to cover, and she said, "I like Valerie by the Zutons". Ronson told Liverpool magazine, "She went into the studio and tried it. I loved it."
Amy Winehouse's version of this track has a slower-tempo than Mark Ronson's, and it appeared as a bonus track on the deluxe edition of "Back to Black" album. This version was also featured at the end of the documentary film "Amy" (2015), a biography of Winehouse, and on its original soundtrack.
