J.B. Brubaker told HMMagazine.com about "Vanguard", "It's, I guess, the least heavy song on the album, and it also has a lot of instrumental breaks and stuff. And you know what? All the vocals are more melodic; it's not just screaming. I guess the whole song is kind of more of that tone. But I really like that more textured and dynamic stuff."
