"Runaway" is the lead single off of the AURORA's 2015 EP "Running with the Wolves". The song was released on the 7th of February 7, 2015, and it was also included on her debut album, "All My Demons Greeting Me as a Friend" (2016).

AURORA explained to Radio.nrk.no, that she had written "Runaway" in school as a musical project. "At that time I wrote a song that I didn't understand fully, but that later turned out to be a very important song that I understand well today, she said. And it makes more and more sense, especially when I'm on tour, and that's very nice. I feel like little-Aurora gave the older-Aurora a gift by writing a song that maybe could be useful later in life. That song from little-Aurora and that period of my life is with me now and will continue to be forever on my further travels."

There exists an acoustic version of the song whose video was published on the 11th of March 2021. She told his fans about it on Instagram, "Hello my darlings, I wanted to do a little acoustic version of "Runaway" for you all. It's very simple. And it's very honest. And it's a little piece of the core from which Runaway was born from."

Billie Eilish was greatly inspired by the video for this track. She explained, "When I was 12, I saw Aurora's 'Runaway' music video. Something inside me clicked, like, 'That is what I want to do, no matter whether it goes anywhere or not'."

The song received a surge in popularity again at the beginning of 2021 after having been used in TikTok Silhouette challenge, which was also replicated on Instagram with the Runaway Aurora filter. The song accompanied the filter. To participate in the challenge, the users would stand against the sky and place the camera in front of them to create a silhouette effect.
