"I Was Here" lyrics
"I Was Here"
I wanna leave my footprints on the sands of time
Know there was something that, meant something that I left behind
When I leave this world, I'll leave no regrets
Leave something to remember, so they won't forget
I was here
I lived, I loved
I was here
I did, I've done everything that I wanted
And it was more than I thought it would be
I will leave my mark so everyone will know
I was here
I wanna say I lived each day, until I die
And know that I meant something in somebody's life
The hearts I have touched will be the proof that I leave
That I made a difference, and this world will see
I was here
I lived, I loved
I was here
I did, I've done everything that I wanted
And it was more than I thought it would be
I will leave my mark so everyone will know
I was here
I lived, I loved
I was here
I did, I've done everything that I wanted
And it was more than I thought it would be
I will leave my mark so everyone will know
I was here
I just want them to know
That I gave my all, did my best
Brought someone some happiness
Left this world a little better just because
I was here
I was here
I lived, I loved
I was here
I did, I've done everything that I wanted
And it was more than I thought it would be
I wanna leave my mark so everyone will know
I was here
I lived (I lived), I loved
I was here
I did (I did), I've done
I was here
I lived (I lived), I loved (I loved)
I was here (oh)
I did, I've done
I was here

With this song, Beyoncé wants to tell that she hopes to leave a footprint in this life. And that footprint will be meaningful, according to her words, because she achieved a lot and helped many.
All the profit from this single's release went to World Humanitarian Day. Beyoncé explained, "We all want to know that our life meant something and that we did something for someone else and that we spread positivity, no matter how big or how small, so the song is perfect for Humanitarian Day."
A
music video for this track was filmed at the UN General Assembly Hall in New York in front of a live audience in order to draw attention to World Humanitarian Day and also to commemorate 22 staff members of the U.N. headquarters in Baghdad, Iraq, which were killed during the bombing on the 19th of August 2003. She said in an interview to CNN anchor Anderson Cooper,
"I found out that 22 people lost their lives helping people in Baghdad and I thought it was such an incredible thing to turn that into something positive and try to include the world in doing something great for someone else."
"I Was Here" was featured in the film "The Meddler" (2016).
