This song tells about how relationships can still evolve, even though the initial promises of never-ending love were broken. Partners learn to accept each other's experiences and overcome their disagreements.

In the music video Beyoncé is shown playing a piano, though the actual piano part of this track was performed by singer-songwriter Vincent Berry II. He co-wrote this song inspired by the break-up of a relationship with a girlfriend.
