Tom Ogden said about his inspiration for writing "Your Girlfriend", "Someone was saying they're in love with their friend's girlfriend and I thought, 'Ooh, that's a good, strange take on a love song.' A different angle to go at and it's obviously not about me, just to be clear!"

On the 17th of June 2019, before this track's release, the band posted a picture of Tom Ogden dressed as a Werewolf with a message "NEW SINGLE 'YOUR GIRLFRIEND'. THURSDAY. 7:30PM. We're so excited for you to hear this, we absolutely love it!"

In a music video for this song, the band members are dressed as horror films' main characters, such as Dracula and Frankenstein's Monster.
