The third single of the album, this song was chosen by a poll on Britney Spears's official website.

The title of this song, if spelled, can be re-written as "F-U-C-K me". It is not for the first time when a performer hides an explicit meaning in a title, e.g. Memphis Slim and April Wine have songs called "If You See Kay".

Savan Kotecha, co-writer of "If U Seek Amy", comes from a traditional Indian family, and his parents were upset when they got to know that he had written such a song. He recalled to Music Business Worldwide, "My mum saw it and she called me and was like, 'My friend's son is becoming a doctor. And my son? My son is writing pop songs about sex!' Then my dad got on the line and was like, 'You're being indecent.'"

There is a "clean" version of this track called "If U See Amy" that was released for some radio stations which refused to play the original.

The music videos of this song references some of her previous music videos such as "...Baby One More Time" and "Piece of Me".
