"Up" is the second single from Cardi B's second studio album. The song was premiered on February 5, 2021, accompanied by a music video.

Cardi B told about "Up" on YouTube Live on the 5th of February 2021, "I wanted a more hood song. I feel like my last song was too sexy. I feel like this is more like of an Atlanta thing, I don't know, a Georgia thing. [Offset] kept saying 'up and stuck' and I'm like 'Oh shit', I keep saying 'up and a stuck' out of nowhere because that's something that I started saying this year. He always say it, but I feel like this year it's just like more and more, so I'm like, alright, this is some gangsta shit and that's what I like and that's why I wanted to do something more gangsta, more cocky."

Speaking with Zane Lowe upon the release of this song, Cardi B explained that with "Up" she wanted to make a song that would be inspired by Chicago drill, similar to her first mixtape. She said to Lowe, "I was young, and I liked that and everything, so my mixtape was very all about gangster violence. If it's up, then it's stuck, and that's where I wanted to take it with this record."
