Danielle Bradbery told Taste Of Country, "'Never Have I Ever' is a bit different from what I've done. It still has a little bit of the sound that I've always had, but I was a little bit braver this time. It has a touch of almost that R&B feel to it as much as the country part."

Speaking with Sounds Like Nashville, Danielle Bradbery revealed, "This song is basically about meeting somebody or dating somebody, whatever it is, and them making you feel like you've never felt before. I feel like that happens a lot — you meet someone unexpectedly, and you're like, 'Whoa, I thought I was in love, but this is what love feels like?' You're almost terrified and excited at the same time because this person is making you fall in love."

This song was co-written by Danielle Bradbery, Laura Veltz and David Hall Hodges. Bradbery commented, "...we wanted to capture that feeling where you're in a new relationship and you're terrified of the intense feelings you have, but you're so excited at the same time. We really tried to put that whirlwind of emotions into words. It's honest and vulnerable, and I can't wait for everyone to hear it."
