"The Myth" lyrics
"The Myth"
Is it that they are fools?
Or are the eyes lying?
Are they to suffer most?
Or can it trickle downward?
Lock horns with Azrael
They are the myth, and they burn the sun
They are the outliers of life
They carry weathered burdens
And they're known throughout the city
When times are tough, they call on us
Are you afraid of time?
Or do you dread today?
Would you say you're deprived?
Or could we say the same?
Names etched upon the rock
Phenoms within stoic psalms
We are the outliers of life
We carry teakwood burdens
And we are the luckiest fucks alive
When times are tough, they count on us, they call to us
Give back the best part
Take back the worst incisions
Let go and respond
Call them blood now...
They won't leave it alone
It won't leave them alone
The endless scrap of life
The endless scrap of life
Lock horns with Azrael
She is a myth, and she burns the sun
They are the outliers of life
They carry battered burdens
They are the luckiest fucks alive
When times are tough, they call on us, they count on us, they come to us
"The Myth" and its
music video were published on the 7th of October, 2026, as the second track unveiled from DOWN's new long-awaited album. The official statement had the following to say about it,
"DOWN was never just a band. It's a brotherhood rooted in childhood friendships that have endured for decades. It's an homage to the city of New Orleans, Louisiana. It's music meant for anybody who has ever headbanged, played 'air guitar', or worn a weathered tour T-shirt like armor. For over three decades, the quintet – Philip H. Anselmo, Pepper Keenan, Kirk Windstein, Jimmy Bower, and Pat Bruders – have quietly built a legacy like no other. When these individuals congregate, magic ensues, conjured by earthquaking grooves, bellowing straight from the soul, and riffing loud enough to awaken an ancient deity. This fall, DOWN begins another chapter with 'Volume V'."
According to Philip H. Anselmo's comment,
"'The Myth' has some epic moments. It's a jammer. It's got a big nod to Trouble, but vocally I'm thinking of James Dewar, Ronnie James Dio, Ozzy Osbourne, Glenn Hughes, and many of the other greats... The track and video are both straightforward and hammering." Kirk Windstein added,
"It's a perfect example of a classic DOWN collaboration. Amazing vocals, great riffs, and it comes together in a great DOWN song!" and
"Everybody played their asses off, wrote great riffs, and Philip is singing amazing. There's so much electricity when we get together. To me, it's the same vibe as our debut NOLA, but we've got another 35 years of experience as songwriters."
