Joan Javits with Philip Springer wrote this song for Eartha Kitt in 1953, and it became her most famous song.

This track was one of the first Christmas novelty songs. The usual holiday songs of that time had themes of childhood nostalgia, but this tune was humorous and from the adult's point of view.

"A 54 convertible" is a reference to a 1954 Cadillac 62 Series Convertible.

Eartha Kitt played herself in the film "New Faces" (1954) and sang this song there, which was later released in the USA, UK and Germany on an EP "Eartha Kitt Sings Songs from the Edward L. Alperson CinemaScope Production of Leonard Sillman's 'New Faces'".
