The idea behind this song was explained by Ed Sheeran, who said, "'Lego House' is about a break-up and it was me using the metaphor of Lego. You spend so long putting Lego together and if you drop it on the floor, within an instant it's broken, and it takes a while to put it back together."

Jake Gosling, one of the co-authors of this track, explained his approach to writing by saying, "The concept was about how simple love can be, in terms of you can build it up as much as you can easily knock it down. It was trying to look at love, I guess, from a childish point of view."

With this song Ed Sheeran drew the attention of Taylor Swift, who contacted him after she heard the song. Sheeran and Swift ended up collaborating on her song "Everything Has Changed".

The music video features actor Rupert Grint, known for his role in the film series about Harry Potter.

There is a version of the music video made by recreation of the original video in LEGO bricks.
