"(There'll Be) Peace In The Valley (For Me)" lyrics

"(There'll Be) Peace In The Valley (For Me)"
(originally by Mahalia Jackson)

Oh, well, I'm tired and so weary, but I must go alone
Till the Lord comes and calls, calls me away, oh, yes
Well, the morning's so bright, and the Lamb is the light
And the night, the night is as black as the sea, oh, yes

There will be peace in the valley for me someday
There will be peace in the valley for me, oh, Lord, I pray
There'll be no sadness, no sorrow, no trouble, trouble I see
There will be peace in the valley for me

Well, the bear will be gentle, and the wolves will be tame
And the lion shall lay down by the lamb, oh, yes
And the beasts from the wild shall be led by a Child
And I'll be changed, changed from this creature that I am, oh, yes

There will be peace in the valley for me someday
There will be peace in the valley for me, oh, Lord, I pray
There'll be no sadness, no sorrow, no trouble, trouble I see
There will be peace in the valley for me, for me

Writer(s): Thomas A. Dorsey
Thomas A. Dorsey originally wrote this song for Mahalia Jackson in 1937.
When Elvis Presley performed the song during his last appearance at the Ed Sullivan Show on the 6th of October 1957, he dedicated it to the refugees fleeing Hungary after the invasion of that country by the Soviet Union in October 1956. The audience, estimated at 50 million, was asked to send aid for them. It resulted in contributions of US$6 million (the equivalent of US$49.5 million in 2017).
