"Landslide" lyrics
"Landslide"
I took my love, I took it down
I climbed a mountain and I turned around
And I saw my reflection in the snow-covered hills
'Till the landslide brought me down
Oh, mirror in the sky, what is love?
Can the child within my heart rise above?
Can I sail through the changing ocean tides?
Can I handle the seasons of my life?
Well, I've been afraid of changing
'Cause I've built my life around you
But time makes you bolder
Even children get older
And I'm getting older too
Well, I've been afraid of changing
'Cause I've built my life around you
But time makes you bolder
Even children get older
And I'm getting older too
Oh, I'm getting older too
Oh, take my love, take it down
Oh, climb a mountain and turn around
And if you see my reflection in the snow-covered hills
Well the landslide will bring it down
And if you see my reflection in the snow-covered hills
Well the landslide will bring it down, oh oh
The landslide will bring it down
Writer(s): Stevie Nicks
Stevie Nicks wrote this song while being in Aspen, Colorado, when she spent some time with Lindsey Buckingham surrounded by Rocky Mountains and snow. She thought, "Wow, all this snow could just come tumbling down around me and there is nothing I can do about it."
Though Fleetwood Mac's label Reprise didn't issue this song as a single, it received consistent airplay and became a staple of their setlists. Only in 1998 a live version from the album "The Dance" (1997) was issued in America as a single for the first time.
The Smashing Pumpkins made a very successful cover of this song in 1994, which was praised by Stevie Nicks.
Tori Amos recorded a cover of this song for her album "In The Springtime Of Her Voodoo" (1996).
Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham performed the song alone on stage when Fleetwood Mac reunited for "The Dance" tour in 1997. These performances usually were very emotional towards the end of the song. Nicks told Rolling Stone, "You can go onstage and have a bit of a love affair, and when you go back to your separate dressing rooms, it's over. But while you're on the stage, it's real."
The cast of the TV show "Glee" covered this song in episode 15 titled "Sexy" of the season 2 with Gwyneth Paltrow. Stevie Nicks was present during the filming of the episode and said that it was a "beautiful mix" of the original and
Dixie Chicks version.
Harry Styles covered this song with Stevie Nicks at his show on the 19th of May, 2017.
