"The Chain" lyrics

"The Chain"

Listen to the wind blow
Watch the sun rise
Run in the shadows
Damn your love
Damn your lies

[2x]
And if you don't love me now
You will never love me again
I can still hear you saying
You would never break the chain

Listen to the wind blow
Down comes the night
Run in the shadows
Damn your love
Damn your lies

Break the silence
Damn the dark
Damn the light

[3x]
And if you don't love me now
You will never love me again
I can still hear you saying
You would never break the chain

[5x]
Chain, keep us together
Running in the shadows

The introduction of this song was borrowed from Buckingham Nicks' song "Lola (My Love)" off of their self-titled 1973 album. That album is the only one released by the duet of Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks.
Some elements of this song were combined from an early project of Christine McVie called "Keep Me There". Lindsey Buckingham told The Rolling Stone Magazine, "The ending was the only thing left from [McVie's] original track; we ended calling it "The Chain" because it was a bunch of pieces."
In April 2018 this song was certified Platinum by the British Phonographic Industry based only on download sales, making it one of Fleetwood Mac's most successful songs in the UK.
The song was featured in the film "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" (2017). It is heard twice in the film, and appears in its soundtrack "Awesome Mix Vol. 2".
