"Waiting On A War" lyrics

"Waiting On A War"

I've been waiting on a war since I was young
Since I was a little boy with a toy gun
Never really wanted to be number one
Just wanted to love everyone

Is there more to this than that?
Is there more to this than that?
Is there more to this than that?
Is there more to this, more to this
More to this than
Just waiting on a war?
Just waiting on a war?

Every day waiting for the sky to fall
Big crash on a world that's so small
Just a boy with nowhere left to go
Fell in love with a voice on the radio

Is there more to this than that?
Is there more to this than that?
Is there more to this than that?
Is there more to this, more to this
More to this than
Just waiting on a war?
Just waiting on a war?

Just waiting on a war for this and that
There's got to be more to this than that
Just waiting on a war for this and that
There's got to be more to this than that

I've been waiting on a war since I was young
Since I was a little boy with a toy gun

Is there more to this, more to this
More to this than
Just waiting on a war?
Just waiting on a war?

Just waiting on a war for this and that
There's got to be more to this than that
Just waiting on a war for this and that
There's got to be more to this than that
Just waiting on a war for this and that
There's got to be more to this than that
Just waiting on a war for this and that
There's got to be more to this than that

Because I need more
Yeah, I need more
Just waiting on a war
Just waiting on a war
Yeah, I need more
(For this and that
There's got to be more to this than that
Just waiting on a war)
Yeah, I need more
(For this and that
There's got to be more to this than that
Just waiting on a war)

"Waiting On A War" is the third track Foo Fighters have released from their tenth album "Medicine At Midnight", following the song "No Son of Mine" and "Shame Shame". An audio snippet of "Waiting On A War" was posted by the band in the form of an animated cover art on Twitter on the 13th of January 2021.
Dave Grohl told about the background on this song on Twitter on the 13th of January 2021, "As a child growing up in the suburbs of Washington DC, I was always afraid of war. I had nightmares of missiles in the sky and soldiers in my backyard, most likely brought upon by the political tension of the early 1980's and my proximity to the Nation's Capitol. My youth was spent under the dark cloud of a hopeless future. Last fall, as I was driving my 11 year old daughter to school, she turned to me and asked, 'Daddy, is there going to be a war?' My heart sank in my chest as I looked into her innocent eyes, because I realized that she was now living under that same dark cloud of a hopeless future that I had felt 40 years ago. I wrote 'Waiting On a War' that day."
