Having been released in 1995, "Lemon Tree" became an international hit in 1996 and spent weeks on the highest positions on the charts across Europe peaking at number 4 on the Eurochart Hot 100. In Fool's Garden's native Germany, the single reached number five and was later certified "Platinum" there.

According to the band's lead vocalist, Peter Freudenthaler, he wrote this song while waiting for his girlfriend on a Sunday afternoon.

DJ and producer Frans Zimmer (also from Germany as Fool's Garden) made a cover version of this track under the name Alle Farben in 2021. The cover and its video were published on the 13th of January, 2021. Zimmer explained, "Even though I didn't study, I went to a lot of student parties myself. And 'Lemon Tree' was the song that really was played everywhere. I always liked the song, but could never really play it live. It didn't fit with house. Besides, even for sets where I played a lot of rock, it was still usually too slow. So I had to come up with my own version."
