"Occam's Razor" lyrics

"Occam's Razor"

There's a whisper in the caucus, foreshadowing of sorts
Caught glimpses of him riding through the throng, the pale horse
They came to swing the pendulum, the compass off its course
And rewrite all the history by doctrine, or by force

Pandora, pull me open, send me to foreign shores
With glitter in the mailbombs to fight the proxy wars
Won't you decorate your claymores the rainbow of remorse?
It's all quiet on the homefront, so we're kicking in your doors

I've come to realise that I've been asleep at the wheel for the last sixteen years
And what of all our growing up?
All of the things that I loved became things that I feared

The river's running red, better put the kids to bed
Ran the good folks from their homes, so we'd better bomb the tents
Is your flag not just a rag, adored by man or gun or fence?
Only killed a million innocents, I'd call it a success
Or... I guess?

I've come to realise that I've been asleep for the last sixteen years
And what of all our growing up?
All of the things that I loved became things that I feared

Can you feel the harps through the avalanche?
Can you see them dying on the burning sands?
There's a lot of unholy things happening in that so-called holy land
I can feel the vitriol of the world as the whole narrative unfurls
Got a high noon meeting with the devil and the herald, and the Lockheed birds

I've come to realise that I've been asleep at the wheel for the last sixteen years
And what of all our growing up?
All of the things that I loved became things that I feared

Shell casings in the water, flowers on the beachhead
The weather's getting warmer, while you're lying on your deathbed
We must have killed a score of them, the beauty in the bloodshed
But now we look around and think, "Was any of it worth it?"

And maybe when you're older, staring out across the breakers
When everyone you love has gone to meet their maker
Won't you pocket Occam's Razor? Save it for the cause?
Another generation to die in proxy wars
