When co-writing this track, Frank Sinatra was going through a divorce from his first wife, Nancy. He needed to wait before marrying actress Ava Gardner. The emotions of that time found their reflection in these lyrics.

Nancy Sinatra (Frank's daughter) quoted Joel Herron in the book "Frank Sinatra: An American Legend: "Frank changed part of the lyric, and made it say what he felt when he was doing it. We said, 'He's gotta be on this song!' and we invited him in as co-writer."

Capitol Records released this track on the album "Where Are You?", which was Frank Sinatra's first stereo recording, and also on an EP.
