"The Chant" was released on the 26th of April, 2021, as the final teaser from Gojira's then-upcoming new album "Fortitude". The song debuted on the BBC Radio 1's "Rock Show With Daniel P Carter" on the 25th of April, 2021.

Vocalist Joe Duplantier said of this song, "This song is infused with the concept of civil disobedience. Acting accordingly with our deepest wisdom and standing for what is precious and good in this world. The only possible revolution is the one that blossoms from within us. Change will come from individuals. Laws are meant to be bent and shaped to our vital needs. Laws will follow!"
