"Release" lyrics
"Release"
I know that I caused this pain
I know you can't let me go
Crying in the midnight rain
Waiting on a miracle
I, I release you
Though it's hard to say the words
And I, I release you
From holding onto the bridge I burned
I release you from the darkness
From the love that we swore was true
I hope that, someday, the sun will shine again
And you'll release me, too
Ooh
Even if I'm in your arms
Even if you touch my skin
I could never change my heart
After being where it's been
I, I release you
Though it's hard to say the words
And I, I release you
From holding onto the bridge I burned
I release you from the darkness
From the love that we swore was true
I hope that, someday, the sun will shine again
And you'll release me, release, me too
Oh
I could never change my heart
After being where it's been
I release you from the darkness
From the love that we swore was true
I hope that, someday, the sun will shine again
And you'll release me, release, me too
Oh, you'll release me, too
Writer(s): Michael Ford Busbee, Grace Potter
Writing "Release" was an important part of the album's creation. Grace Potter said about it, "...the song that helped me transition into making this record."
The refrain of this song came to Grace Potter while she was taking a bath at home. She wrote it in a voice memo on her telephone. When "Daylight" producer Eric Valentine heard it, he said, "That's crazy good. You can't sleep on that. You should totally finish that idea."
