"Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)" lyrics

"Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)"

Fuck...

Another turning point, a fork stuck in the road
Time grabs you by the wrist, directs you where to go
So make the best of this test, and don't ask why
It's not a question, but a lesson learned in time

It's something unpredictable, but in the end is right
I hope you had the time of your life

So take the photographs, and still frames in your mind
Hang it on a shelf in good health and good time
Tattoos of memories and dead skin on trial
For what it's worth it was worth all the while

It's something unpredictable, but in the end is right
I hope you had the time of your life

It's something unpredictable, but in the end is right
I hope you had the time of your life

It's something unpredictable, but in the end is right
I hope you had the time of your life

Billie Joe Armstrong wrote this song about his break-up with a girlfriend. Armstrong recalled to Spin Magazine in a 2010 interview, "That was really the first time we attempted a ballad."
This song was written in 1993 before the release of their album "Dookie" (1994), but it wasn't included in that album full of punk songs because it was too different.
As the band's first ballad, this song attracted some new fans while alienated the other. Many die-hard fans considered this song as an example of the band's selling-out.
The song became a hit at prom dances because of its nostalgic lyrics, which many graduating seniors interpret as reflective of their time in high school.
