According to a press release, "Perhaps" has been in a demo state since decades (originally written and recorded during the sessions for "Chinese Democracy") until its release on the 18th of August, 2023. The song was "written and recorded by Axl Rose, Slash, and Duff McKagan this year" per the press release and marked their "first collective new composition and recording together in 30 years".

This track premiered on Q104.3 on Thursday morning, the 17th of August, 2023.

"Perhaps" is the third song Guns N' Roses released since Axl Rose, Slash and Duff McKagan reunited in 2016, following the releases of "Absurd" and "Hard Skool".
