"Song For Belfast" lyrics

"Song For Belfast"

Oh I'm going home to Belfast for it's there that I belong
Where all my hopes and dreams were born with music and with song
I learnt the golden rules there they taught me right from wrong
No matter where I chanced to roam Belfast was me home

From sailor town to Sydenham the shank hill and the falls
From Cultra down to the marketplace sure I've rambled 'round them all
Saturday pictures at the strand where we were so enthralled
With our cowboy heroes Roy and gene all on the silver screen

The city that I knew so well has changed in many ways
Belfast and meself I think we hope for better days
But I was born and raised here and all I have is praise
So here's to the town I call my own

We would gather at the singing pubs where music filled the air
The Dubliners, the Clancys and the rovers all were there
She was a lively city and the times were rich and rare
Thoughts of troubled times to come well it never crossed our minds

The city that I knew so well has changed in many ways
Belfast and meself I think we hope for better days
But I was born and raised here and all I have is praise
So here's to the town I call my own

As she wakens from her slumber Belfast city makes a vow
Troubles from the times gone by will not define us now
The old ones might remember may the young ones never bow
Peace and hope for one and all a proud city once again

The city that I knew so well has changed in many ways
Belfast and meself I think we hope for better days
But I was born and raised here and all I have is praise
So here's to the town I call my own
So here's to the town I call my own
