"Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)" lyrics
"Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)"
It doesn't hurt me
Do you wanna feel how it feels?
Do you wanna know, know that it doesn't hurt me?
Do you wanna hear about the deal that I'm making?
You, it's you and me
And if I only could
I'd make a deal with God
And I'd get him to swap our places
Be running up that road
Be running up that hill
Be running up that building
Say, if I only could, ooh
You don't wanna hurt me
But see how deep the bullet lies
Unaware I'm tearing you asunder
Ooh, there is thunder in our hearts
Is there so much hate for the ones we love?
Oh, tell me, we both matter, don't we?
You, it's you and me
It's you and me won't be unhappy
And if I only could
I'd make a deal with God
And I'd get him to swap our places
Be running up that road
Be running up that hill
Be running up that building
Say, if I only could, ooh
You
It's you and me
It's you and me won't be unhappy
Oh, come on, baby. Oh, come on, darling
Let me steal this moment from you now
Oh, come on, angel. Come on, come on, darling
Let's exchange the experience, ooh
And if I only could
I'd make a deal with God
And I'd get him to swap our places
I'd be running up that road
Be running up that hill
With no problems
Say, if I only could
I'd make a deal with God
And I'd get him to swap our places
Be running up that road
Be running up that hill
With no problems
So if I only could
And make a deal with God
I'd get him to swap our places
I'd be running up that road
Be running up that hill
With no problems
So if I only could
Be running up that hill
With no problems
If I only could, be running up that hill
If I only could, be running up that hill

"Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)" is the first single from Kate Bush's 1985 album "Hounds of Love". The single was released on the 5th of August, 1985.
Kate Bush said the following about the idea behind the song, "It seems that the more you get to know a person, the greater the scope there is for misunderstanding. Sometimes you can hurt somebody purely accidentally or be afraid to tell them something because you think they might be hurt when really they'll understand."
"I was trying to say that, really, a man and a woman, can't understand each other because we are a man and a woman. And if we could actually swap each other's roles, if we could actually be in each other's place for a while, I think we'd both be very surprised! And I think it would lead to a greater understanding. And really the only way I could think it could be done was either... you know, I thought a deal with the devil, you know. And I thought, 'Well, no, why not a deal with God!'" explained Kate Bush in an interview with Richard Skinner in 1992.
After this song was featured in the TV series "Stranger Things" (season 4, episode 4) on the 27th of May, 2022, it went to number-one place on US iTunes charts that month.
