"Protector" was written by a friend of Kim Walker-Smith. She said about it, "Instantly I connected to the message of the song. And just speaking out who God is as our protector and our protection... There a line in the chorus that says, 'Your presence is my peace, my covering,' and that felt really special to me and I felt like I'm personally really connected to."

The official statement says about this song, "'Protector' is a powerful anthem and declaration of Who God is and His promise to never leave, nor forsake us."

Kim Walker-Smith explained what this song is about on Facebook on the 27th of June 2020, "For me to sing a song that says 'protector', calls God 'protector'... it's not just another word or another name for God. It's not just another attribute of God, but it is a powerful statement and is very significant to me and almost very serious to me to say 'protector', to call him 'protector', because it's also me saying, 'I trust you with my heart. I trust you to value my heart, and to see it as a treasure, and treat it as a treasure, and protect it and keep it safe.'"
