"Boots On The Ground" lyrics

Had a hell of a week, down on my luck
Propped up my feet, said, "Bottoms up"
At the end of the bar, Scotch in his hand
Hat on his head, said, "Vietnam"

I swear, all of sudden, I felt lucky for a change
We might be under the same neon
But we ain't the same

I slipped on my leather Luccheses
He tied up them army green laces
Mine were made for going out all night
His were made for running straight into the fight
I can take a shot 'cause he dodged a bullet
I can raise hell 'cause he walked right through it
Some drinks might be, but freedom ain't free, no doubt
I wouldn't have my boots on a barstool
Without them boots on the ground

I can't imagine what all he saw
Maybe he fought with my grandpa
I got up, made my way over
Just had to tap him on the shoulder
I thanked him for his service, he said he'd do it all again
I thought whiskey'd be my hero here tonight, then I met him

I slipped on my leather Luccheses
He tied up them army green laces
Mine were made for going out all night
His were made for running straight into the fight
I can take a shot 'cause he dodged a bullet
I can raise hell 'cause he walked right through it
Some drinks might be, but freedom ain't free, no doubt
I wouldn't have my boots on a barstool
Without them boots on the ground

I'm gonna get to kick 'em off when I get home
I'm gonna think about how some of them don't

I slipped on my leather Luccheses
He tied up them army green laces
Mine were made for going out all night
His were made for running straight into the fight
I can take a shot 'cause he dodged a bullet
I can raise hell 'cause he walked right through it
Some drinks might be, but freedom ain't free, no doubt
I wouldn't have my boots on a barstool
Without them boots on the ground

Without them boots on the ground
