This song drew inspiration from the Cthulhu Mythos . It has references to "The Shadow Over Innsmouth" novel by H.P. Lovecraft in its chorus.

This is the heaviest track on the album. The main riff is meant to emulate a scary creature (Cthulhu) dragging in the sea.

Kirk Hammett explained in the book "Rush: Album by Album" that one of the riffs in this track is taken from a riff in "Jacob's Ladder" by Rush .

There is a live version of this song recorded at the Seattle Coliseum, Washington, on the 29th of August 1989 and included on the digital re-release of the album.

Another live version of this song with modified lyrics was included in the band's live album "S&M" (1999): they removed the second verse and went to the last chorus after the solo.
