"Bucket List" lyrics
"Bucket List"
Yeah, I hate that the only way
I can say what I need to say
Is with a prayer I hope is getting through the clouds
Now, you're forever young
And I'm living like I'm dying
All I'm doing is just trying to make you proud
Yeah, life is like a first kiss
You don't know how long it's gonna last
All you get is what you get
And it gets real, really fast
I'mma love a little more
Dream a little deeper
Leave all the leavers
Keep all the keepers
Find peace of mind
In the time the good Lord gives
I'mma cross one off
Put two more on it
Say "I love you" 'fore the moment's gone
And never have to ask myself, "What if?"
When I get to the bottom of my bucket list
Mine used to look real petty
Was the picture in the dictionary
Of the guy that wasn't ready to grow up
And all it took was a last goodbye
A broken heart on borrowed time
And letting go of things that are hard to let go of
Now I love a little more
Dream a little deeper
Leave all the leavers
Keep all the keepers
Find peace of mind
In the time the good Lord gives
I'mma cross one off
Put two more on it
Say "I love you" 'fore the moment's gone
And never have to ask myself, "What if?"
When I get to the bottom of my bucket list, yeah
Yeah, life is like a first kiss
You don't know how long it's gonna last
All you get is what you get
And it gets real really fast
I'mma love a little more
Dream a little deeper
Leave all the leavers
Keep all the keepers
Find peace of mind
In the time the good Lord gives
(Find a peace of mind)
I'mma cross one off
Put two more on it
Say "I love you" 'fore the moment's gone
And never have to ask myself, "What if?"
When I get to the bottom of my bucket list, yeah
The bottom of my bucket list
Writer(s): Chris Destefano, Mitchell Tenpenny, Laura Veltz
Mitchell Tenpenny told People about the inspiration behind "Bucket List" in an interview in December 2020, "That's what my dad always taught me and my brother growing up, that life is short … so you just always have to go for it. I have noticed that when someone gives you that courage to go for it, that's when you have the best chance of success." The song was premiered on January 1, 2021.
This song was written by Mitchell Tenpenny with Chris DeStefano and Laura Veltz. Tenpenny explained, "It was one of those songs that just literally fell out of us. We all have our own version of what a bucket list is. So, we all started talking about things we wanted to get done before we cross everything off of our list, you know? I sang it that day, but then I lived with it for a while. But it became this song that my manager kept bringing up, so here we are. It was written for this time, even though it wasn't written in this time."
