This song was released as a single on the 20th of April 1970. The B-side was
"Sugar Mountain". The single reached the number 55 on the Billboard Top 100.
Neil Young "explained" in the liner notes to the "Decade" album, "Wrote this for a city girl on peeling pavement coming at me thru Phil Ochs eyes playing finger cymbals. It was hard to explain to my wife."
Neil Young admitted in the book "Shakey" that he had a crush on Jean Ray (folk singer of the band "Jim and Jean") which partly inspired this song. He said, "There's images in there that have to do with Jean and there's images that have to do with other people."
