"Out On The Weekend" lyrics

"Out On The Weekend"

Think I'll pack it in
And buy a pick-up
Take it down to L.A.
Find a place to call my own
And try to fix up
Start a brand-new day

The woman I'm thinking of
She loved me all up
But I'm so down today
She's so fine, she's in my mind
I hear her calling

See the lonely boy
Out on the weekend
Trying to make it pay
Can't relate to joy
He tries to speak and
Can't begin to say

She got pictures on the wall
They make me look up
From her big brass bed
Now I'm running down the road
Trying to stay up
Somewhere in her head

The woman I'm thinking of
She loved me all up
But I'm so down today
She's so fine she's in my mind
I hear her calling

See the lonely boy
Out on the weekend
Trying to make it pay
Can't relate to joy
He tries to speak and
Can't begin to say

Writer(s): Neil Young
The album this song opens was recorded by Neil Young on his ranch where he was recovering from surgery. He said in an interview with Rolling Stone in 1975, "I recorded most of 'Harvest' in the brace. That's a lot of the reason it's such a mellow album. I couldn't physically play an electric guitar."
Lee Ann Womack covered this song for her "The Way I'm Livin'" (2014) album as a musical gift to her husband Frank Liddell who considered the song very important for him. She performed it for the first time with Buddy Miller and Jim Lauderdale at South by Southwest show.
